GAME VIEWING, BIRDING The 2 720 km Lukusuzi National Park lies in the eastern catchment area of the Luangwa River. Almost half of the park consists of plateau, and the remaining area is dotted with rocky outcrops. Miombo woodland is dominant, with grassland on the plateau and along the rivers. The game species in the park are similar to those found in other areas of the Luangwa Valley and include elephant, buffalo, blue wildebeest, eland, Lichten-stein's hartebeest, roan, sable, klipspringer and warthog. The spotted hyena is the main predatory species. Location: Eastern Zambia; north-east of Lusaka. Access: From Lusaka follow the main road eastwards to Chipata; continue towards Lundazi for approximately 110 km, then turn left onto a secondary road leading to the park. This road is usually in poor condition. There is no internal road network. Permission to be obtained from the authority before entering. Accommodation: None. Other facilities: None. Open: Throughout the year. Beware: Malaria; bilharzia; tsetse fly.
